Supermesna: There's of course no way for me to actually know whats wrong with your printer and it's even possble that you may even have an actual HARDWARE PROBLEM parts problem, especially if your Printhead Assembly is not actually clogged. If ink is actually flowing thru your printhead nozzles, then it would normally indicate a bad or failing Printhead Assembly, or a bad or failing Main Board Assembly. If you have been using Non-Epson Ink Cartridges in your printer, then its possible that using the wrong ink could have possibly damaged the printhead assembly, or that the cartridges may actually be bad/defective. Other than installing new Epson Cartridges as a test, there's not a lot you can easily do. If you think the printheads may be clogged, you can order an old style Printhead Cleaning Kit thru this Printer Repair Site and use the syringe and Epson fluids to inject into the nozzles, to try and get them to open up again.

Its possible that you may not actually be able get the printhead assembly to work again. Just to let you know, I do not work for 'fixyourownprinter.com' or even 'Epson Company'. The 'Printhead Cleaning Kits' sold by the 'fixyourownprinter.com' printer repair site, say they are not designed for the 'C80' printers. Although the kit IS NOT designed for the 'C' series printers such as the C60, C80 or C82 or the NEWER SERIES of Epson Ink Jet Style Printers, the fluid and syringe can still be used in the same way.

The syringe and Epson Fluids that come in the kit are still the best thing to try injecting into the nozzles to try and get them to reopen, if they were clogged. The main difference is the instructions for the FELT PAD/CAP ASSEMBLY. The 'C80/C82' series and newer 'C' series printers, use a different style 'cap assembly' that does not use a felt pad, so you have to ignore that portion of the instructions. If you want to try using the 'printhead cleaning kit', it's available through the home page on 'fixyourownprinter.com'. The KIT is around $10.00 plus shipping and I'm told that it includes a syringe and some Epson Printhead Cleaning Solution. The Epson fluid is designed to dissolve most clogs, especially if you were using Epson inks.

You can try it if you want to and see if you can get the printhead nozzles to open up again.REMEMBER: The 'nozzles' inside the printhead assembly can be easily damaged by using to much force. Damage can even occur when you are using the printhead cleaning kit method, if you actually try to force the fluid thru the nozzle.

Sometimes with too much force, the nozzles can be damaged. The correct method is to use the syringe to add the fluid into the nozzle and then leave the fluids set inside the nozzle for a couple of days, to try and dissolve a possible bad clog. Sometimes you might have to use the fluids several times to be able to disolve the clog in the printhead nozzles. Sometimes the clog will never disolve, or it actually damages the nozzles. The longer the clog has been in, the worse it is to remove. Again, if the cleaning fluids don't help, then its generally time to invest in a new printer.

Unfortunatly, small inexpensive ink jet printers are thought of as being disposable in the printer world, because it usually costs more to repair them, than you can buy a new printer for.Good Luck! Denny Conway. Anonymous: If the Printhead Assembly is not clogged and fluids flow thru it, then either its failing or the Main Board is failing, but no real way to know for sure. Printheads are real easy to damage and its real easy to get the Factory Adjustments thrown off, if you remove them for cleaning. Just to let you know: I never remove printheads for cleaning in my shop, just for replacement, because of that possibility. Check to be sure that the printheads ribbon cable is plugged in fully.

If the cleaning did not help and the printhead is not actually clogged, then its generally time to invest in a new printer. In some more expensive printers, you may want to get an estimate to replace the printhead assembly, but as a general rule, its not really economical to do in the smaller Epson Ink Jet style printers. You can generally buy a new small printer cheaper than you can have your old one repaired for. EXAMPLE: The printhead assembly in the 'C80' Printer sells for around $120 to $130.Its possible that the Pump Assembly may have failed and is not actually causing a vacuum effect to draw out the ink for printing, but I don't really know of a way to test it on the newer printers that do not have the older style Cap Assembly with the felt pad on it.

They are friendly!I'm sorry that I could not really be of much help to you.Good Luck! Denny Conway. Kelly: Unfortunatly, that sounds like the Cleaning Station Assembly/Cap Assembly area and its very difficult to work on, even for a Printer Technician. You would probably need to try and locate a Service Manual on-line, to purchase and download, just to use for troubleshooting and disassembly and servicing. Normally you could not even get to that area without removing the Top cover off your printer and even that is difficult for most people. You can check out the following link provided by WES, that shows how to remove a cover off a C60 which is simular and possibly use it as a guide on your C40: ' '.You can see an exploded parts diagram of your C40UX at ' ', that you can also use for possible reference and part location.

If you could actually use up that remaining unk, then air would actually get into the Printhead Nozzles, causing them to start to dry out and that can lead to clogging. If you do not care about that, then you would need to invest in a Chip Resetter, to be able to reset the Electricalo Chip on each ink cartridge, so that you can reuse them and use up that remaining ink in the cartridge.HERE'S SOME INFO POSTED ON THE 'FIXYOUROWNPRINTER.COM', PRINTER REPAIR SITE: bjrose 3/31/2003 16:08:40 Subject: reset most ink cartridges.check out this software works like a charm.

The driver is showing up under the system device manager as EPSON USB PRINTER (EPUSB1:) - which is correct. The EPSON Stylus C40 Series printer icon shows up in the Printer window of the Control Panel. When I go to properties in the icon, and then go to Details, 'Print to the Following Port' indicates EPUSB1: (Unknown Local Printer) instead of EPUSB1: EPSON Stylus C40:It is printing with the following Driver: EPSON Stylus C40 Series, which I also think is correct. It's just the (Unknown Local Printer) that I'm concerned about.I can monitor the ink and when I run the monitor in the utilities tab, it says I have enough ink and that it's 'ready to print'.
